Welcome to ABSOLUT FUTURE - ThreeThousand's page dedicated to the State of Design Festival. This year, architects, designers, artists and innovators will present a kaleidoscopic vision of things to come under the theme of Sampling the Future. While it is their job to be looking ahead, we have made our job to focus on the present and here you will find daily insights into process, progress, creativity and collaboration.

Taking your old t-shirt in for a makeover is like having a haircut. Something that you've grown used to is about to change and once it starts, there's no going back. The first cut really is the deepest.
A bad barber will try and re-invent you, a really bad barber will try and sedate you with a complimentary beer, but a good barber will simply refine what you already are. The latter is how MATERIALBYPRODUCT approach their t-shirt makeovers.
Concentrating on the details, they look at what was and breathe new life into the garment via simple methods like cutting and restitching the bulky athletic collar of my peeling/decaying ‘JAZZ' shirt - which, despite the fact that I don't actually like or listen to jazz, has sentimental value as a relic from one of my very first Savers missions.
When it was finished I folded it carefully and put it in my bag and I thought about my other t-shirts on the floor of my room. I thought about getting some more coathangers. I thought about taking better care of myself, of my clothes. I thought about how no one would even notice that my t-shirt had changed and how the real purpose of a make over is not making other people appreciate you, but simply appreciating what you already have.
